CORTISOL
Low cortisol is when one has either a stress event (including losses). This could trigger alopecia (an autoimmune condition). It could be both high and low cortisol.
HIGH ESTROGEN
This can also effect the hair by lowering the thyroid function. High estrogen blocks thyroid function. This could happen during the pregnancy when estrogen is spiked. However, right after the pregnancy, the estrogen drops and this can increase androgen.
INSULIN
Increase insulin can trigger the increase of androgens, which turns into DHT effecting the hair. High androgens can cause PCOD, but its high insulin that causing that.
MENOPAUSE
At menopause, estrogen drops, but not as low as testosterone, so the ratio makes testosterone higher; this converts to DHT, thus effecting hair.
THYROID
Having a slow thyroid can effect hair. But most thyroid issues are secondary which means it's really not a thyroid problem itself. If the gallbladder is a problem, then T4 will not convert to T3. Also if estrogen is high, the thyroid will be inhibited.
TESTOSTERONE
If testosterone is high, it can turn into DHT thereby blocking the growth of hair. Or, the lower amounts of estrogen can make the testosterone appear to be too high.
